Reproductive Health Literacy Training (RHLT) Toolkit Guide

Introduction: This toolkit is designed to help facilitators deliver the Reproductive Health
Literacy Training (RHLT) either as part of a broader program or as a standalone
session. It provides step-by-step guidance and resources that support culturally
responsive and accessible health education for refugee and immigrant communities.

How RHLT Has Been Offered:

Our Reproductive Health Literacy Trainings (RHLT) have been delivered in formats tailored to the topic and participants’ needs. Sessions were offered either virtually or in person. Whenever possible, a bilingual, bicultural facilitator led the sessions. In cases where a facilitator was not available, staff used recorded video and audio materials from the interactive cervical cancer tool in participants’ preferred languages and led the discussion and Q&A with interpreter support.

RHLT has been integrated into cultural orientation programs to provide newcomers with essential reproductive health knowledge as part of their broader adjustment and learning. Whenever possible, women selected the topics and shaped discussion priorities.
RHLT topics have also been offered as standalone sessions (e.g., menopause or cervical cancer education) during community outreach events or on virtual platforms to address specific concerns in a focused, flexible format.
The ReproNet team combined the three most requested sessions into an RHLT series, offering it in Dari, Pashto, or Arabic at public libraries. Pre- and post-assessment results showed that the RHLT sessions were well accepted, well attended, and that participants improved their general, digital, and reproductive health literacy.
